House of Beer coming to Gainesville in early September

Owners say it's no place for a Natterday.

House of Beer opens in early September, but an official grand opening party is scheduled for November.

The bar, which will be at 19 W University Ave., is owned by three UF graduates from the class of 1994. It is the third House of Beer location, following bars in Palm Harbor and Dunedin.

House of Beer is designed to attract students and residents who want an experience different from most offered at Gainesville bars. There will be no "ladies nights," no 25-cent beer nights and no underage students allowed.

"We're not your typical bar when it comes to that sort of stuff," said co-owner Andy Polce. "We're into the craft beer scene."

The craft beer scene attracts drinkers who enjoy trying drinks different from mass-produced brands such as Bud Light, Polce said.

"The craft market is slowly growing here," Polce said. "There are a few places, and this will help build downtown."

Drinks will include many gateway beers, such as German three-wheat beers, that people use to get into the craft beer scene. Each draft of beer will cost $4 to $7 and each bottle will cost between $3 and $20, depending on the rarity of the beer.
