Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor will speak at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts on campus Monday, Sept. 12 as part of the UF Levin College of Law's Allen L. Poucher Legal Education Series.

The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., and the program will begin at 10:30 a.m.

O'Connor will be on a panel of other prominent legal minds to discuss judicial reform topics such as campaign financing and whether judges should be elected by the people.

O'Connor was not paid to speak at the event, said Paul Pakidis, editor-in-chief of the Florida Law Review, which sponsors the event.

O'Connor is also scheduled to speak about civic education at an event hosted by Accent that night at the University Auditorium. However, Pakidis said the events will be completely different.

"People can attend both because they will see completely different lectures," he said.

More information on the event can be found at floridalawreview.org.
