So you're settling in - getting used to the roommate, eating at dining halls and making awkward conversation with that cute girl or boy who always gets breakfast the same time you do.

Once classes start, you'll be busy with making it to lectures and getting homework done. But you want more. You want to get involved.

So what do you do?

Besides taking that goofy Gator 1 card and lanyard combo off of your neck, you should get involved on campus.

There are 955 student organizations on campus, more than 50,000 students and an infinite number of ways to mess up.

To have a well-rounded freshman year, join one student organization that has something to do with your major and one just for fun.

One organization for your major allows you to see what your major actually is - other than a name on a website - and shows you where you can take your interests.

This one major-specific club will introduce you to students your age and older to help make friends while networking with people who know what's going on, which professors to take and how to survive.

Fun groups will help you meet different kinds of people and have fun as all of you do something you like.

You think you have a unusual hobby, don't you?

Is it more unusual than what the students involved with Objects in Motion do? Juggling.

Is your family from a country most UF students can't point to on a map? How do you think students in the Nepalese Student Association feel?

Do you think no one at UF but you is an Agronomy major? The Gator Citrus Club is more than willing to help you pick out classes.

There are so many organizations willing to help you make the most of your college experience, it ‘s just your job to go out and find them.

Involvement is how you make friends, gain professional contacts and make college worth it.You can search through all 955 of UF's student organizations at union.ufl.edu/involvement/search.
