Election season 2012 is starting to churn

It's that time of the year again: Gainesville City Commission election season.

For those of you who don't follow city races, election season is a lot like football season. By the time the championship has rolled around, it's already time to start pre-season training.

Summer is the only time it isn't election season, and even that's debatable.

Right now, there are four candidates registered for the At-Large 1 seat and two registered for the District 1 seat.

Both incumbents have reached their term limits, so the seats are wide open.

The candidates, listed alphabetically, are as follows:

At-Large 1:

-James Ingle, a strong supporter of working-class issues and an electrician.

- Donna Lutz, a University of Florida alumna and a real estate agent.

- Darlene Pifalo, a Gainesville resident since 1985 and a real estate agent.

-Lauren Poe, former City Commissioner for District 2.

District 1:

- Armando Grundy, an Army veteran who was appointed to the Alachua County Charter Review Commission in 2009.

- Yvonne Hinson-Rawls, a Gainesville Housing Authority commissioner.
