Safety suggestions in light of serial-rape investigation

The University Police Department issued a notice Thursday warning residents to remain on guard despite the arrest of Michael Alan Frye, a suspect who officials believe may be connected to five rapes that have occurred since July in Marion County and Gainesville.

For more on Frye's arrest, see this Alligator article.

The Gainesville Police Department is still investigating a July 5 incident that may be connected to Frye, but has not charged him with anything.

As a result, UPD issued a release recommending that residents continue to remain safe by following some suggestions, such as avoid getting close to a car if a driver asks for directions and check inside his or her vehicle before getting into it.
