University Police have named the suspect in the Nov. 29 rape of a student near Fraternity Row.

In a Friday news release, police identified the suspect as Tommie Howard III, 25, of Hawthorne.

Police made the identification after positive DNA evidence came back this week, said Maj. Brad Barber, UPD public information officer.

Police have not been able to find Howard, who is wanted for sexual battery, Barber said.

Howard is also a suspect in the Dec. 9 assault of a UF student near Sorority Row, said Cpl. Angelina Valuri, public information officer for the Gainesville Police Department.

Valuri said Howard's involvement in the most recent crime has not been confirmed, but there is an active warrant for his arrest on charges of armed assault.

Anyone with information about Howard or his location should contact UPD at 352-392-1111, or Crime Stoppers at 352-372-STOP to remain anonymous.

Tips that lead to Howard's arrest may be eligible for a cash reward, according to the UPD release.
