Police responded to a domestic dispute Wednesday morning and found themselves tying up a pair of unsolved crimes.
When the Alachua County Sheriff's Office arrived at Holland C. Coburn's house at 9043 SW 106th Trail, officers noticed the license plate on a car parked outside matched that of a vehicle reported stolen. On Tuesday, Gainesville Police saw that same car in a surveillance video of a CVS parking lot, where a suspect snatched $50 from an elderly man and drove off in the stolen vehicle.
Coburn, 32, was arrested for car burglary and strong-armed robbery. He was held at the Alachua County Jail in lieu of a $50,000 bond Wednesday night.
When officers went to Coburn's house in the morning, his wife told them he jumped out of a window and ran away. Officers were not able to find him.
A few hours later, however, a neighbor found Coburn sleeping in his truck, according to an arrest report. The neighbor asked Coburn what he was doing.
"I'm freezing," Coburn said. "I was hiding from the police."
Coburn then returned to his house, where he was arrested.
The day before, Coburn allegedly robbed a 64-year-old man outside the CVS at 3404 SW Archer Road. The victim was counting his money at abound 3:30 p.m. when Coburn approached him, according to GPD. Coburn asked to borrow the victim's cellphone and then tried to take the man's cash.
The victim at first held on, but Coburn dragged him across the ground before taking $50. He then took off in a tan car, believed to be either a Dodge Neon or a Chevrolet Cavalier.
