Gainesville Police arrested a man accused of throwing eggs and breaking a front-door window with a 2-by-4 on Tuesday morning.
Justin A. Arredondo, 25, of Hawthorne, was charged with attempted burglary and criminal mischief.
Arredondo moved in with his brother and Katie Williams at 730 NE 10th Ave. in March. He promised to stay only two weeks, Williams said. He stayed four.
Williams said she and Arredondo bickered. He depressed her, telling her he was worthless and belonged in jail.
Also, he brought women back — too many of them. Williams works as a cook and server at Leonardo’s Pizza of Millhopper and often doesn’t come home until after 2 a.m. Sometimes, she would wake up two or three hours later to Arredondo’s screams during sex.
Williams left a message for Arredondo on Sunday: Stop bringing women home. Later, a neighbor told Williams that Arredondo had entertained three women that day. When she came home from work at about 2:30 Tuesday morning, she told him he needed to leave.
Arredondo refused. He told Williams the only way he was leaving was in the back of a police car, she said. Then, he ran outside with about 15 eggs and a beer bottle.
Arredondo ran to a neighboring duplex, chucked the beer bottle up an outdoor staircase and unloaded his eggs against a front door, Williams said. He then grabbed a 12-foot-long 2-by-4 that he had brought back from a construction site where he worked.
He threw the wood against the front door several times. Once, the 2-by-4 bounced off a pole and hit Arredondo in the face, Williams said. Eventually, he smashed the window on the front door, according to police.
He was held at Alachua County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
