Mayor goes to Washington to discuss entrepreneurship and innovation

Mayor Craig Lowe was the only elected official invited Wednesday afternoon to take part in a roundtable with the U.S. Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship in Washington D.C.

Lowe was invited by the committee because of Gainesville’s successful partnership with UF in opening Innovation Hub.

“This was a good opportunity for us to showcase the partnership between the University of Florida and the city of Gainesville with respect to entrepreneurialism,” Lowe said.

The roundtable was held to critique current job creation proposals and to brainstorm legislation ideas.

Lowe said the committee was impressed with the development of Innovation Hub and Innovation Square.

Members of the committee wanted to solicit input from those who participate in all levels of the “entrepreneurial ecosystem.”

Other guests included university officials from Stanford, co-founder of Rent the Runway and the president of the Young Entrepreneur Council, among others.
