Just hours after Brad Beal announced his departure to the NBA Draft on Friday, the Gators began the process of filling their open roster spots with the signing of DeVon Walker.
Walker, a 6-foot-6, 187-pound small forward/shooting guard out of Winter Haven, averaged 23.8 points per game during his senior year and helped lead his team to a Class 6A semifinals appearance in the state tournament.
Listed as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and the No. 31 overall small forward, Walker whittled his college choices down to Florida and Alabama before ultimately signing his letter of intent with the Gators.
Walker rounds out Florida’s current 2012 class to four players following the earlier commitments of shooting guards Michael Frazier and Dillon Graham along with point guard Braxton Ogbueze.
After the transfer of freshman forward Walter Pitchford this week, the Gators have one scholarship spot still available for next season. With one swingman in Walker and three guards currently committed, Florida is expected to pursue five-star forward Anthony Bennett to fill its final opening.
