A local magazine will show the variety of restaurants in Gainesville while raising money for charity Sunday.
Taste of HOME Gainesville will feature foods from 32 locally owned restaurants and four bars.
The event, hosted by HOME Magazine, will benefit Children’s Home Society of Florida, Child Advocacy Center and Tyler’s Hope for a Dystonia Cure Inc., publisher Scott Costello said.
The event runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Costello said he expects more guests than attended last year, and 600 tickets have already been sold. Tickets are $75 each.
Restaurant owners said the event gives them an opportunity to advertise while raising money for good causes.
“It allows us to get out there and promote our business while making a lot of difference,” said Ryan Todd, owner of Embers Wood Grill. Embers has participated in Taste of HOME since it began, he said.
The Iron Chef Gainesville competition will take place in the Hilton main ballroom during the event, Costello said. The dish cooked by the winner will be auctioned off.
Embers executive chef and co-owner Briton Dumas is the Iron Chef Gainesville’s defending champion, Todd said. The chef has been preparing for the competition for half a year.
“It’s a lot of fun for us to get out there and cook and meet new people,” he said.
