A tree fell on a carpet cleaning van leaving one man in critical condition.

A Stanley Steamer van was traveling south on Main Street when an oak tree fell on it, crushing the roof and windshield, which left the driver trapped in the vehicle.

According to a Gainesville Fire Rescue press release, bystanders tried to tell the driver to stay in the van, but he made his way out of the van and collapsed on the roadway.

GFR arrived to the scene, 2300 S Main St., at about 3 p.m.

The driver was taken to Shands at UF for treatment.

The passenger denied injuries at the scene.

The on-scene video, http://youtu.be/ZPQ_Pyx8b3o?hd=1, shows the passenger of the vehicle talking about accident.

The tree stretched across three lanes of traffic, as seen in the GFR video.

"This was an unusual and significant crash that while it did injure the driver, could have been fatal due the size of the tree and a moving vehicle," said District Chief Jeff Lane.
