Keeping it cool this holiday season

It’s almost that time of the year again for lighting the menorah, decking the halls and staying as far away from the mistletoe as possible when your stage-five clinger is around. But don’t let it also be a time for your wardrobe to take a nose-dive. Once finals are over, there is no excuse for your sweatpants and hoodies to leave your home. Don’t just stick with the ordinary red and green or blue and white combo, shake things up with some sparkle and shine.

First things first, enough with the dull fabrics. Make your outfits stand out with metallic silver and gold pieces. This is a great way to have all eyes on you as you enter the room at any given holiday party. Metallics are sleek, cool and something that can roll over for New Year’s as well.

If you’re tired of the wading through a sea of green and red or white and blue, be a little bold and try and all white outfit approach. This winter wonderland-esque look is simple to do. A touch of red lipstick is all it takes to make this look go from cute to va va voom! It works well with the holiday season without being overly cliché. However be warned, one spill and you’re ruined.

As for footwear, it’s time to bring back those ankle boots and knee-highs. You can wear boots with heels for an edgy out-on-the-town look, or rock things with no heels for everyday wear. But don’t you dare don a pair of UGGs. That is an automatic shift to the naughty list. With it being this close to the holidays, there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to redeem yourself.

Next on our list is the infamous tacky holiday sweater. I’m not saying you should get rid of them, but you need to know when it’s appropriate to wear one. Ladies and gentlemen that time is during an “ugly holiday sweater” party or in the privacy of your own home. Otherwise, no one wants to see it. Instead try simple sweaters and accessorize with bold statement jewelry.

Now that we have a little holiday shopping list made out, it’s time to hit the stores before the huge rush. Remember, keep it classy and keep it cool this winter season!
