Ring! The alarm goes off. 7:30 a.m.? Nah, you still have time for a little more sleep. Exam season is underway. You barely slept last night, and you’ve promised yourself rest for the past two days. Five more minutes.

BOOM. Now it’s 8:15 a.m. 8:15 a.m. ? How did it get to be 8:15 a.m. when it was just 7:30 a.m.?

Dashing out of bed is awful and being late is worse. All you think is: eyes, teeth, pants. But what if there was a little formula for what to wear when you’re late? Here are some ideas for the days when you only have five minutes for fashion.

T-shirt

T-shirt

They are unoriginal and in no way improve your life, but a soft, plain white tee can be a savior when you don’t have a moment to spare. They match with everything, and they’re a much better alternative to a tacky graphic tee. Some tees have a cool style like a sheer back or a silk pocket detail. Go for the soft, stylish T-shirt instead of the stiff Fruit of the Loom shirt from the eighth grade.

Leggings

Leggings

Blair Waldorf once said tights are not pants, but she said nothing about leggings. This comfortable clothing piece will never disappoint you. Wear them with a T-shirt and long cardigan that covers your butt for a quick outfit. Leggings can be your best friend, but make sure to check for holes or rips. They can quickly turn into your worst enemy if everyone can see your underwear because your bottom is ripped at the seams.

Jeans

Jeans

Skirts, shorts and pants of another material that is not denim, in a bright color or cool texture, are the fashionable things to wear on the daily because you have more time to construct an outfit. But when you’ve just woken up, you’re not thinking about color coordination. Go for your best-quality, cleanest pair of jeans, and avoid stepping out of the house in the pajama shorts you wore to bed.

Hair

Hair

A chic bun up-do is the perfect way to work with your hair when you’re delayed. The steps to the perfect messy bun are simple: pick up your hair and bun it. Move it around a little to loosen it up, and don’t worry about the strays. If it’s at reach, add a cute bow or clip on the side to make it girly.

Accessories

Accessories

Accessorizing may be the last thing you think about when you’re late, so go for the easy pieces. Your favorite watch can add an element of class and chicness any day. Earrings are a must because they accentuate your face and can help you look less tired and more feminine. Sunglasses can cover up your tired eyes, but be wary of wearing them indoors because you’ll probably end up looking like Kanye.

Footwear

Footwear

This greatly depends on the weather, so check the temperature outside. Wearing sandals on a rainy day, or a day when it’s 50 degrees out, can become problematic when you’re treading to class. For fast footwear, go for the simple black or brown sandals if you know it’s nice out. When it is cold, slip on some leather booties or your favorite sneakers for comfort. Notice how I said favorite indicating that they’re cute and in good condition, not just the first pair you find.

These simple steps can aid you on those days when you just want to run out of the house in a nighty and don’t care who sees. Remember, the smart Fashionista always checks for sleepdust and grabs some fruit or a nutrition bar when she’s running late. Don’t make a habit out of it because tardiness is laziness.
