Rahim Henderson, a 50-year-old Gainesville man known as Radio, was arrested Sunday on charges of attempted murder, according to the arrest report.
Henderson’s girlfriend, 32-year-old Gwennesha Demps, met the victim to pool money for narcotics. When the purchase was unsuccessful, an argument ensued about what they should do with the cash.
The victim walked away from Demps, but she followed him. Demps repeatedly asked for the money, and he refused, according to the arrest report. It is unclear if it was the entirety of their combined money. She also hit him in the face with a small stick at one point.
Demps followed the victim for 10 blocks, called Henderson and told him to meet them.
According to the arrest report, she told the victim, “Radio is coming, and he is going to take care of it.”
Henderson arrived at the scene and fired a gun at the victim and missed, according to surveillance footage. The victim ran away and called the Gainesville Police Department.
Both Henderson and Demps were taken into custody. Henderson refused to speak to law enforcement. Demps admitted to following the victim, hitting him with a stick and being present when the gun was fired. She said she looked away when the gun went off.
Records revealed Henderson has a history of arrests, having been charged with robbery in 1995.
Henderson was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and attempted robbery. Demps was charged with battery and armed robbery.
Henderson and Demps were booked into the Alachua County Jail where they await trial.
