A few weeks ago my roommate announced a bargain with herself. There’s a pair of shoes: expensive, dripping in glamour, trendy as can be. But chic-ness doesn’t come so easily. In order to get these shoes, she has to go to the gym every day for a month. Or, she will be forever sans the platform pumps of her dreams.
Spring break is coming up and you can’t hide under a maxi dress for a week straight. Trust me, I considered it. What deal will you make with yourself? And I hate to break it to you, but Cosmo told me leather is in for the spring. And, from personal experience, wearing leather is the magnifying glass of fashion – it makes you feel huge.
So here are the top five trends for spring that will leave you chanting their names at the gym for inspiration:
1. Leather shorts: Looking really good in leather is an acquired skill that from extensive research, I have concluded that only one person in the world has: Beyonce. But for those of us who are not Beyonce, which is everyone but, well, Beyonce, there is still hope. You can look almost as good as Beyonce. Just think of these leather shorts each time a piece of cake is about to jump in your mouth. Come one night spring break, you will thank yourself. You might even try to do a Beyonce booty pop.
2. Cutout dresses: Apparently less is more this spring because every dress and top out there has some form of missing fabric. Sometimes I wonder why I am still paying for clothing because so much of it is missing in a cutout. Cutouts will inspire you to trim down a bit, seeing as your love handles may be in plain view via the cutout.
3. Mid-drift baring separates: Carrie Bradshaw knew what was up before all of us, but who is surprised. The new trend is to bare your abs, or lack there of, in top and shorts, or skirt, separates. This trend should inspire you to do a few extra sit-ups at the gym.
4. Printed pants: Pants with bold prints scream “Hey everyone! Look at my thighs!” Enough said.
5. Oversized Ruffles: Ruffles can make you look like one of two things: a cupcake or the most stylish person on the planet. There is little room to be in between. I inspire you to not fall into the muffy cupcake category. Ruffles, like printed pants, draw attention to everything on your body. So you better work it and look great doing it. Wear those ruffles girlfriend, don’t let them wear you.
