Incorrect life lessons I learned from watching TV

For the Lolz is a humor blog. It's a sarcastic take on the world around us. Please read the posts in this section with a light heart and eager smile.

Over the course of my lifetime I have learned a lot about the world just by watching television. Unfortunately, these lessons can give you a false perception of reality. Here are some common misconceptions about the world you should look out for when watching TV.

Online Ordaining

Every time that someone needs to get married on a TV show, one of their friends goes online to get ordained so that they can do the wedding. As much fun as this idea sounds, people don't trust their extremely inexperienced friends with their weddings.

People leave their clothes on when they get intimate

I may not have any experience with this, but I'm pretty sure women don't always leave their bras on when they do the naughty stuff

Couch Placement

In the classic oversized TV sitcom apartment, couches are always placed right in the center of the room. Sure, this would be convenient if you were filming movies in your house all the time, but in an actual apartment the couch belongs against the wall.

Large black men are always in unexpected places.

Unfortunately this is not the case in the real world. I've never had one as a lunch lady, brother in-law, or friend in an otherwise white group of friends (T-Dog). In actuality, large black men are distributed equally throughout society. Except for in the NFL and NBA.

Dads are always oblivious until the most crucial moments of our lives

While most dads are generally oblivious to the world around them, they are especially obnoxious on TV shows. In addition, these TV dads always have sudden changes of heart for no reason at all. Hooray for character depth!

Evil people always feel the need to gloat

Every time a TV show villain is about to kill the good guy, for some reason he feels a need to gloat over the good guy. In reality, when a guy mugs you in the alley he doesn't stop to take the time to gloat about how awesome he is at mugging you. He just brutally mugs you.

Death is always balanced out with new life

Almost every time that a main character dies, another main character either finds out that they are pregnant or has a baby. For example (SPOILER ALERT!!!), the scene when Aaron is born in Lost and Boone has just been buried.

In the real world, people get pregnant when two people of the opposite sex fall asleep together in the same bed. Not, when someone dies.
