Leonardo Seymore hands the baton to Dedric Dukes in  the 4x400 relay at the Tom Jones Classic on April 21, 2012. Dukes won the men's 200m at the Florida Relays on Friday.

On the second day of the UCF Invitational in Orlando, sprinters Leonardo Seymore and Michael Burris earned victories in the men’s 100m and 400m, respectively.

With his last outdoor victory coming by way of sharing the men’s national title in the 4x400m relay at last season’s NCAA meets, the All-American Seymore continued his success by clocking a time of 10.56 seconds in the men’s 100m -- good for his first collegiate individual event victory. Along with his national title, Seymore also picked up a Southeastern Conference outdoor title in the men’s 4x400m relay last season in Baton Rouge, La.

Burris, a walk-on sophomore, notched his first individual collegiate victory with a personal-best time of 47.89 seconds in the men’s 400m. Finishing behind Burris was fellow Gator Jovon Toppin.

Toppin’s time of 47.98 seconds was the fastest he’s run in the men’s 400m since competing in the 2011 Indoor Southeastern Conference Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.

For the women, sophomore jumper Gissell Warner placed third in the women’s triple jump. With a personal-best distance of 12.09m, Warner just edged out Georgia State’s Gabrielle Brooks by three centimeters.

In the women’s discus throw, Florida earned three top 10 finishes in a field of 30. Seniors Ashley Miller and Kaitlin Davis came in third and fifth with distances of 50.6m and 48.01m, respectively, while sophomore Manuela Burtsher finished eighth with a personal best distance of 44.31m. Davis was just shy of a fourth place finish, falling a single centimeter short of NC State’s Nicole Chavis.

Sophomore thrower Arlitha Mackey threw a personal-best outdoor distance of 13.27m in the women’s shot put. Mackey managed to finish ninth in a field of 27.

Florida’s schedule becomes increasingly significant in the coming weeks. Starting this coming Wednesday, the Gators will compete in the historic, four-day long, 86th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The following week, Florida is set to host the Florida Relays.

“Slow to get the ball rolling for outdoor season, trying to gain some momentum,” coach Mike Holloway said earlier this week. “Really excited about the Florida Relays here in a couple weeks. That’s always a great event for us. First time for us to perform in front of out home fans.”
