The most common answer guys give when asked why they don’t put more effort into their look is “I’m lazy.”

The reality is that it’s not that difficult to look good on a day-to-day basis. You could literally roll out of bed, throw on a T-shirt, some pants and accessories and be ready to go.

A great example of a guy who does this seamlessly is Adam Brody, otherwise known as the coolest nerd on the planet: Seth Cohen.

Through out the years, we watched him go from “ew, get away” to “hey boy, hey.” Now Adam’s laid-back California style can serve in lessons on how to dress for average everyday activities.

Going to read (in your case, going to class)

Layering dark tones with bright ones can give you a serious attitude. Adam layers a navy crewneck sweater with a bright yellow T-shirt for some contrast. Stash the jeans and grab some casual slacks to make the look more mature. Slip on your favorite comfy shoes for your trek to class, which in Adam’s case is a pair of Vans that date back to his last year in college. Accessorize with a slouchy beanie, some cool sunnies and your favorite book. This look works well if you want to give off the impression that you’re an English major.

Grabbing some coffee

Adam Brody

Adam always keeps his looks simple. Not too much frilliness, but just the right statement piece to show that he means business. Here we see him obviously straight ballin’ in a plain white tee, which he probably rolled out of bed with, some dark pants and a fuzzy coat. He accessorized with another beanie and some coffee. Coincidentally, these accessories can also be used to stay warm. He might have been on to something.

Riding a scooter (in your case, a real scooter)

A nice sports coat is never out of the question. This item of clothing can be paired with any bottom, except shorts. Adam paired a royal blue sports coat with a plaid blue and white dress shirt, and some jeans. Again he had on what is probably his most-worn pair of grey sneakers. Here he accessorized with a scooter, which might have been a prop on the set of a photo-shoot, or just something he uses to cruise over to his bro’s house. You could wear this look to an important event at school or elsewhere, keeping it casual and professional.

Walking the dogs

Adam Brody

For a look that’s more refined but still relaxed, Adam wore a soft grey button-down with rolled sleeves, a pair of straight-leg jeans and grey sneakers. On this walk, his accessories included his two pups, which double as ladies magnets. The oldest trick in the book to getting a positive reaction out of a girl is to use your dog as a catalyst. Something so simple as a well-dressed lad walking his dogs can be profusely attractive.

Aside from the fact that you don’t have to be styled by GQ to look good every day, what did we learn from Adam Brody?

The clothes don’t make the man. The accessories do.
