Vacation is over, but your life isn't

After a big trip or a busy bout of work we can find ourselves in a travel lull. Sometimes it is because we have run out of funds or because we need to hanker down and actually do school work for a change. Whatever the reason may be, we need to keep busy so we aren't just sitting around waiting for the next vacation.

Coming back from spring break is going to be difficult for everybody (teachers and students alike). So, what shall we do in the mean time before we start getting excited about summer vacation?

Here are a few things I know I will be doing to keep the travel bug from making me itch constantly:

1. Get engulfed in a new book

Lord knows that in the beginning of the school year I bought a bunch of best sellers thinking I could tackle them throughout the year. Whoops! Ya, that didn't happen. I took road trips with friends, went to New Orleans, I just got plain swamped i the Swamp as well. Now is my chance! Returning from spring break tan and relaxed I'm going to keep the relaxation going by picking up the long awaited third book of the "Fifty Shades Series...."

2. Go to the gym

Ya, ya, I know, you already got the spring break bod you worked so hard for after the new year. Lets be honest, the pizza and beer I am going to consume this week is going to bring me back to square one. And hey, while running on the treadmill or rather, walking fast, I can dream up my next dream vacation, accompanied of course by the dream man I'm going to meet at the gym who is casually lifting weights behind me.

3. Read travel blogs

Isn't that what you're doing now?? Well, keep it going. Plenty of blogs out there can get you excited out about your next trip and give you plenty of ideas. My favorite is nomadicmatt.com, check it out.

4. Go to a concert or show nearby

No, it may not be broadway or Madison Square Garden, but I'm sure a local club or bar will be holding shows in your community. Check it out, maybe one of your favorite indie bands will be coming to town. You can have new experiences without breaking the bank and sometimes just around the corner.

5. Eat ethnic foods

You probably won't be going to India for a while, so hit up a local Indian restaurant and imagine your self at the Taj Mahal. Order Chinese takeout and imagine walking on the Great Wall of China. It's amazing how food can transport you to other places and feelings. I like to keep my self busy in the kitchen. I make homemade pies and soups that take me back to places I've visited or people that I love. It's a great way to connect with places and people when you can't be there or be with them.

Going back to school this week is going to be tough, but we all have our calendars marked when summer vacation starts. In the mean time keep busy, hang out, and save money for your next big adventure.
