The last day of the school year is in three and a half weeks. When I look at the calendar I can’t believe that all that stands between me and the end of my freshman year is 18 school days. Even though the end is quickly approaching it still feels hectic. I still have three exams and four papers before I can be finished and pat myself on the back for a successful first year.

Spring break seemed like such a tease; I came back in a summer mindset only to remember that school year is still happening. Too much is going on to check out just yet. There is still schoolwork and things to accomplish before kicking back and enjoying the summer. Read on for advice on staying focused for the next few weeks.

Make a check list or calendar. I find that time goes by fast if you’re looking at a list or schedule and checking off items. Make a list of all major assignments and tests that will be coming up. Write down what needs to done along with them: studying, research, homework, etc. Cross items off your list one by one and really try to stick to your schedule. You might be surprised by how quickly you find yourself approaching the bottom of the list.

Enjoy the change of the season. Despite the chilly week we just had, it will be getting warmer. Just because you may not be able to hit the beach yet doesn’t mean you should miss out on warmer weather. Take your books poolside and enjoy the sunshine. If all you can manage is fifteen minutes lying on the grass by the Reitz then so be it. Do something to enjoy the warmth and combat the pale winter skin that we’ve all been saddled with (unless of course you already took care of that over spring break).

Stay focused. It can be easy to just throw up your hands and skate through the last bit of the semester. But you’ll only regret it and won’t make summer come any faster. Focus on your work, go to class, enjoy being with friends before you have to separate and make sure to make the most of the last weeks of the semester.

Don’t look ahead to summer and forget about the rest of the school year! There are still friends to hang out with, papers to write, tests to study for and memories to be made. These are the last few weeks of your freshman year of college; you won’t get to repeat this experience. Make the most of the last 23 days.
