Sunglasses are magical. I’m convinced of this. How else do you explain why they make you instantly feel cooler the moment you put them on. In order to look hot and stay cool this summer the right sunglasses are a must. Here are a few guidelines to help you pick the perfect pair.

The Fit

From a young age we learned that a square peg doesn’t fit into a round hole. That philosophy, as elementary as it sounds, applies to sunglasses as well. Everyone does not have the same face shape. The glamorous shades that our favorite celebrities wear may not look great on us. It’s important to figure out what style of shades fit your specific facial structure. If they’re too big you look like a kid playing dress up, and if they’re too small you just look like someone who couldn’t let go of the 90s. Take the time to try on a variety of shapes and sizes until you find your fit.

The Trends

Now that you know what looks good and what doesn’t, it’s time to check out what’s trendy. This year, we’re seeing a resurgence of vintage frames. Cat eye, geometric and larger frames are popping up all over. Designers like Michael Kors, Chanel and Stella McCartney are accessorizing their models with frames like these for their runway shows. However, if you’re familiar with runway shows, things have a tendency to appear a bit crazier than they would off the catwalk. Take each look with a grain of salt, and find a more toned down version of these trendy sunglasses. Don’t let the runway dictate exactly what you should and should not wear. This is a fashion democracy.

Colors

A great thing about sunglasses is that there’s really no limit with them. In fact, I love having specific sunglasses for different occasions. I suggest having a classic pair in a solid color for everyday wear. Also, have a ride-or-die pair that you can take with you to the beach or on whatever adventures summer has for you. If they get a little beaten up, it’s all good. You should also have an eclectic pair that have a unique shape or wild pattern. Those are your showstopper shades that work as your statement accessory.

Whatever you chose to wear, don’t forget that your shades are there for your cool factor (and protection from the sun). Wear what makes you feel good, but please, no transition lenses.
