In the year 2013, it is common knowledge that most people have the attention span of a 3-year-old. Things just fail to interest us after five minutes. When it comes to exercise, this is a problem. How are we supposed to get an hour of exercise at least four times a week when we can’t stand more than a few minutes of each move? I am here to help.

When you really look, there are hundreds of options for people who have no desire to do the same repetitive moves for an hour day in and day out. Personally, an hour on the treadmill sounds like torture. So, it’s time to get creative. I am constantly on the lookout for fun and new workout regimens. Here is what I have come up with so far.

Tried and true workouts

Tae Kwon Do (or any martial arts): I have been doing Tae Kwon Do for almost 12 years now, and I can honestly say that I love it. It is an incredible workout, both for cardio and strength, and you also can learn valuable self-defense moves. While you must sometimes practice the same moves, it can always be in a different format. You also build up a network of friends so that you can encourage each other. Finally, there is a ranking system, encouraging you to keep going to classes in order to move up the ranks.

Blogilates: Pilates is a strenuous workout that allows you to build up strength and increase endurance. Blogilates is a website that puts a twist in it. Created by a pilates instructor, this website has meal plans, workout equipment, and a calendar of workouts all laid out. Each day has five or six videos on YouTube that amount to an hour of workouts. Each video is either a cardio workout or it focuses on an area of the body such as core, legs,or arms. Every video is different, keeping you entertained. It also doesn’t hurt that Cassey Ho, the instructor, doesn’t stop talking the entire video, distracting you from the pain!

Zumba: Confession time: I cannot really dance. However this does not stop me from enjoying Zumba. While some of the moves can occur multiple times in an hour, the music and combinations of steps are both different. Plus, it’s fun to dance! Zumba is a workout that leaves you sweating and tired, but you do not even realize that incredible cardio exercise that you just received until it is over. Whether you take a class with a bunch of friends or you order a DVD and practice in your living room, you will be thanking yourself later.

Pinterest: Maybe you are on a budget. Or maybe you do not have the time to workout for an hour. Or perhaps you just want to change things up for a day. Whatever the reason, pinterest has thousands of workouts for the curious exerciser. You can opt for cardio, legs, arms, abdominals or all of the above. Most of the “pins” contain simple moves that used in conjunction will give you a fast and effective workout. This is good if you want to try something new or different once in a while.

Good luck on your workout journey!
