Summer’s finally here, and after this semester, you might be begging for a vacation. But between working, interning, babysitting and volunteering, who has the time, and the money, to travel halfway across the globe just to relax? Well, cue weekend trips. Sweet three-day trips are all you need to take a breather. And, living in Florida means we live in a state where most people vacation, so you won’t have to go far.

So, what does one pack for a quick getaway? Here’s some tips to get you started.

Beach Vacay:

Not everyone in the Sunshine State has the luxury to live right on the beach, so if you find yourself landlocked and in desperate need of some sand in your toes, plan a short trip to your closest shoreline.

Two bathing suits

One to wear as the other one dries from the day before.

One chambray top

This denim go-to can be paired with shorts for sight-seeing or tossed on top a bathing suit as a coverup for lunch.

Two pairs of shorts

Pick basics here. One that goes well for day (maybe denim cutoffs) and one a little more tailored for going out to eat. They should both complement your other tops, which we’ll get to next.

Three shirts

Bring shirts that work well from day to night. Basics are great or try some simple patterns like stripes. Keep them flowy so you’ll stay cooled.

One dress

Okay, pick wisely here. A dress can easily transition from beachside to barside with the right accessories. A flowy bright or patterned one will be perfect. But, you can’t go wrong with a classic black or white dress either.

Two pairs of shoes

Pack comfortable pairs like canvas sneakers or flat espadrilles for walking around town. A pair of simple sandals, like nude or black, will go with all your outfits and be perfect for stopping by the beach or grabbing dinner.

Accessories

This is where you can have fun! Accessories are a great way to change up an outfit. So, pack fun necklaces, earrings, a patterned clutch or anything else that you love. They’ll help spice up your look.

To make things simpler, plan your outfits before you go! Pick pieces that go well with each other (by staying in the same relative color palette) and remember, it’s a vacation, just enjoy and relax! You deserve a break every once in a while.
