Ladies! Today’s post is super super important for each and every one of you considering all of us have gone through this, are going through this, or will go through this in the future. More than likely, all three will happen, in all reality. If you haven’t figured it out yet, today’s post is about the B word that scares us all: break ups.

I recently split with my boyfriend of two years and it has been anything but easy to say the least, but people who find out that I’m dealing with it say they would have never guessed because I’m handling myself very well considering the circumstances. I’m here to give you all a few tips that I have personally applied to my own situation that are making the days, weeks, after my break-up easier. Put down the Cookies and Crème ladies, and let me help you…help yourselves.

STEP 1: Keeping Yourself Healthy

It’s over. You know it, he knows it, so why continue to dwell on the inevitable? I’m not saying you can’t cry, because Lord knows I’ve had my fair share of waterfalls lately, but make sure you’re focusing on the positive and then everything else will fall into place.

Crying is actually healthy for you, in adequate amounts. Obviously, don’t bottle up all of your emotions inside until you go completely batshit, but physically force yourself to think about either the good times of the relationship, or the amazing things you’re able to do now that you’re on your own.

STOP EATING YOUR PAIN AWAY! I can’t stress this enough. No amount of food is ever going to make you happier. Please, do the world a favor, and do NOT rely on fattening, harmful artificial foods to please you because he no longer can. Instead, focus on the positive again! Realize this is a time to shine the light on you and what you need and want.

You might want the Twinkie, but do you really need it? The answer is no if you were debating. Spend the time you would usually spend thinking about him planning out your meals, cutting coupons, and researching what types of foods in what portions are appropriate for you. Not only will it get your mind off of his nonsense, but it will also give you a chance to better yourself as an individual!

Also, go to the gym! Nothing gives you a better release of emotions than pushing your body to its breaking point while blaring your favorite music through your headphones. The reason some people literally get addicted to exercising is because when you workout, your body releases endorphins that send signals to your brain that minimize your perception of pain. Endorphins also trigger an emotional positive (there’s that word again…) feeling that is similar to the effect of morphine, so if you really want to keep your mind, heart and body healthy, hit the treadmill!

Step 2: Girls Night!

This is more than likely going to be my favorite tip because I’m all for girls nights. Whether you were in the kind of relationship where you couldn’t spend time with anyone other than your significant other or if things were pretty open and relaxed between you two, no matter the case, your girlfriends are the most important people in your life right now.

Keep them close. That’s what they’re here for! The ones that stand by your side during the bad times are the ones to keep, so let them love you!

You’ve spent an ample amount of time with one person, now it’s time to do you and have a great time being on your own. I’m not saying you need to go get wasted and end every night with mascara streaks and vodka breath, but I am saying, instead of spending all of your free time focusing on what could have been, divert your attention to yourself and your girls.

Coffee trips, dinner and a movie, lounging by the pool. If you actively participate in events like this, the crazy club nights will inevitably happen and come easy to you.

Step 3: Do You!

You got dumped, so what? You might think it’s the end of the world right now, but something better (notice I didn’t say “someone” because what you need might not be a person at all) will definitely come around whenever you open yourself up to the idea. It’s time to focus on YOU.

If you, sadly, lost yourself during the relationship (you gave ten times more of you than he was willing to give of him), do something about it! Take up a new hobby, start a new project, go on a trip and find yourself again! The reason someone fell for you is because you’re obviously pretty freaking awesome, so remind yourself of that every single day, and the day you start loving yourself again, someone else will inevitably love you back.
