Two UF professors are joining Robert De Niro, Bruce Springsteen and John Glenn in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Ecology professor Robert Holt and anthropology professor Michael Moseley will be inducted into the Academy on Oct. 12. They’re the 11th and 12th members of UF’s faculty elected to the Academy since the 1970s.

The Academy serves as an independent research center that elects members to exchange and promote ideas, according to its website.

“It’s like an adult version of an honor society,” Holt said.

He said his acceptance to the Academy came as a surprise because he wasn’t even aware of his nomination.

UF spokesman Steve Orlando wrote in an email that the university is proud of the professors.

“UF is extremely fortunate to have such gifted scholars, and this national recognition reflects well on the entire university,” he said.
