Where to sip a latte while studying

Studying in your dorm room or Library West all the time can get dull, and sometimes you just need a change of scenery. Coffeehouses provide a great location to study with a relaxed atmosphere when the library gets a little too stuffy. Plus you can stay caffeinated and grab a tasty snack if you get hungry.

We all know about Starbucks already, so here are some other coffeehouses near campus that you should check out:

Pascal’s Coffeehouse

Pascal’s is located on Northwest 16th Street, right near midtown, so you can easily walk there from campus. Wooden beams in the ceiling and a stone fireplace give the coffeehouse a cabin-like feel. Pascal’s has a very cozy, homey atmosphere conducive for productive studying. There is plenty of space, with tables located upstairs and downstairs. Pascal’s has a menu extensive enough to satisfy any coffee connoisseur. Plus they have delicious, fresh bakery items.

Karma Cream

Karma Cream is located on West University Avenue. One of my favorite things about Karma Cream is their large selection of dairy and vegan ice cream flavors. They also have a nice drink selection (shakes, floats, teas, coffee, hot chocolate, beer, etc.), sandwiches and bakery items. And the best part is everything is organic! There isn’t a lot of seating space, but Karma Cream is usually busier at night, so if you go earlier in the day you shouldn’t have a problem.

Maude’s Café

Maude’s is located downtown next to the Hippodrome Theater. What I love about Maude’s is its retro ambiance. Vintage record sleeves covering a wall, paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and indie rock playing softly in the background all lend to the coffee house’s eclectic atmosphere. There is a spacious outdoor area with seating too. Maude’s offers a large selection of breakfast and lunch foods in addition to their drinks and sweets. They also have the best iced chai tea latte I’ve ever tasted.
