New yogurt shop offers flavor, competition

A Tampa-based frozen yogurt shop is serving up sweet treats to Gainesville residents in a new Butler Plaza location.

Yogurtology is the first tenant to open in a new building located at 3730 SW Archer Road called the Shoppes at Butler Plaza, according to a release.

Co-owner Jordan Levy, 31, said the shop, which opened July 15, has already had a sweet response in its new location.

“I think things will pick up with the students coming back in a few weeks, but things have really been great so far,” Levy said.

Levy co-owns and manages the franchise with his siblings Jacelyn, 29, and Grant, 25, along with his brother-in-law Ean, 30. There are eight other locations in Florida.

He said the biggest difference between this shop and others is the wide variety of flavors exclusive to Yogurtology, such as “oatmeal cookie” and “salted caramel.”

“[Yogurtology] allows customers to make their own creations beyond the typical yogurt options,” Levy said.

The shop features more than 100 different flavors that revolve weekly, including sugar-free and dairy-free options. Customers can choose their own “bottomings” or items to be added to the bottom of the cup, and “sloppings” or sauces to finish their creation off, Levy said.

“People don’t typically go to Yogurtology alone,” Levy said. “It’s a shared experience.”

Kristin Mamula, a marketing associate for Butler Enterprises, said the store will be located in the same building as Pink Narcissus, a Lilly Pulitzer Signature Store, which will open Thursday.

The shop’s location is less than a mile from the Archer Road Mochi location.

UF economics sophomore Connie Dean, 18, said she would give the new business a try if it had more variety and better deals than Mochi.

“We definitely have enough frozen yogurt places,” Bendris said. “If I’m going to go anywhere, it would be Karma Cream.”
