Day 2 of Tar Heel Invitational at Chapel Hill, N.C. on Saturday showed improvement for the No. 5 Florida women’s golf team.
The Gators (+10) moved up five spots from 12th place to seventh with Karolina Vlckova (E) and Maria Torres (+2) still leading the team.
“The girls played hard [Saturday] and we showed some great depth,” coach Emily Glaser said. “I am happy to see them rebound well from [Friday’s] slow start.”
Each Gator showed progress on the course Saturday as redshirt sophomore Katie Mitchell (+3) improved by seven strokes and shot the only under-par round for Florida.
Sarah Schober (+5) and Camilla Hedberg (+7) each improved their Day 2 results. Schober advanced by five strokes and Hedberg by three. Anna Young, again competing individually, remained at 3-over on the day.
Hedberg, Mitchell and Young were the only Gators to all make three birdies in the second round.
Florida trails tournament-leader Duke by 18 strokes.
The young Gators enter the final day of the Tar Heel Invitational with room to improve again.
“We are a young team and we continue to learn and get more comfortable each week,” Glaser said. “[Sunday], we need to trust our game and trust that the putts will fall.”
