What to know about Miley's "Bangerz"

In the last couple of months twerking, tongue twirling, nudity, and wreaking balls, have all been associated with the new image of Miley Cyrus. She is breaking away from her former Disney Hannah Montana persona; a new transformation which seems rather scandalous. As she continues to reinvent herself she puts out new music, breaking away from her acting career. Miley’s two top songs “We Can’t Stop” and “Wreaking Ball” which advertises her new lifestyle, including heartbreaking with fiancé Liam Hemsworth, and “dancing with Molly” both songs making it to the top 100 hits this fall. These songs are going to be featured on Miley’s new album “Bangerz,” which offers a variety of love songs and party songs including names such as: Pharrell, Mike WiLL Made It, Brittany Spears, Nelly, Big Sean, and more.

Miley starts our listening experience with the slow moving love song “Adore You”. I didn’t really enjoy this song due to its simple lyrics and overdone singing of the same lines. ‘My Darling,’ follows the slow song theme. The song features the incoherent singer Future. Nevertheless, It has a nice message, “My darling stand by me.” The song slowly moves you as you begin to think about your own lover. ‘Somewhere Else’ is another emotionally impacting song on Miley’s album. All characterized by a slow moving beat that remains rather similar throughout the album. These songs appeal to the more mature female audience because older woman can relate with Miley’s love struggle with Liam.

‘Wrecking Ball’ the song in the spotlight right now due to it raunchy video and emotional lyrics. It is by far my favorite song on the album. Not only because I enjoy naked women but because the lyrics and the music match perfectly and one can feel the emotion gleam through the song as she screams; “I came in like a wrecking ball....all you ever did was break me.” Not to mention another one of Mileys current hits is “We Can’t Stop” which advertises her dramatic changes in her new found identity. In which she is singing about her new life which involves clubbing and drugs, “Dancing with Molly”. It’s an up tempo jam song the perfect song for a rebellious teenager to listen to before indulging in night full of mischievous activities.

SMS featuring Brittany Spears is a more up-tempo song with an electronic feel to it. As I listen to this song I can’t help but imagine Miley and Brittany vogue dancing to the beat. Moving right into 4x4 featuring Nelly. It is one of my favorite songs on the album because it has a country vibe with a hint of a rap. Miley and Nelly did an excellent job of mixing the different styles and making a unique song; making me feel as if I’m going on a rocky adventure as I listen to the song.

“Love Money Party” is Miley Cyrus’ attempt at a rap song. The beat is the only thing that saves her in this song. Both the flow and the lyrics being relatively weak, but I still found myself jamming my head to the music. The next song ‘#GETITRIGHT’ redeems her from her last. The up-tempo, Pharrell made beat has you grooving in an old school funk. All though this song is catchy, it is rather inappropriate singing, “I could wait in this bed all night long” as the chorus, but realistically I would wait for Miley all night long, so I can feel the lyrics of the lust driven song as I listen to it. “Do My Thang” another hard hitting beat and a very catchy chorus that has you bumping, but then is let down, yet again by Miley’s raping. I imagine hearing this type of song on the radio in the upcoming weeks.

The album characterizes what the media is seeing from Miley. It’s experimental, through the music I see her trying to find herself. With love songs that characterize her emotional side, country songs that embodies old Miley, and rap songs that shows her transforming into what the media shows Miley as now. As you listen to the entirety of the album you will go through your ups and downs. Shifting between loving her music to questioning what you’re listening to. It’s truthfully not one of my favorite albums of the year.
