With finals approaching, students looking for quiet at “Club West” might not be on the list.

But agitated students could be misinformed about library rules.

The only quiet floor in Library West is the fourth floor, said Michele LeSure, nights and weekends circulation coordinator in Library West.

“People may not be on the right floor for their needs,” LeSure said.

She added that library employees will ask students to be quiet only on the fourth floor. The first, second and third floors permit talking because some students work or study in groups.

“Things have come a long way from the shushing librarian,” she said.

Still, students are complaining about the noise level.

“Just the other day while I was in the study carrels, there was a group of girls talking and laughing,” said Monica Tromer, a 19-year-old UF chemistry freshman. “That was kind of annoying.”

But Kriti Vedhanayagam, a 21-year-old UF English junior, said students who only show up to the library during finals week have taken over.

“I find it offensive when people tell me not to discuss a problem with a friend on a talking floor,” she said. “The second and third floor are still talking floors.”
