Last day to register to vote in Alachua County is today

Today is the last day to register to vote in the March 11 City of Gainesville elections.

People who are already registered voters can update their information online at votealachua.com. A city residential address is required.

First-time voters must turn in paperwork to the downtown Supervisor of Elections office, located at 111 SE First Ave. The paperwork can be partially filled out online at votealachua.com and printed. It must be dropped off at the office or postmarked today to meet the deadline.

Mayor Ed Braddy said students shouldn’t disregard the opportunity to participate in city elections.

“We encourage students to think of Gainesville as their community just like everyone else’s,” he said.

Katy Melchiorre, president of Alachua County Young Republicans, agreed.

“Student vote could really decide the election,” she said.

UF College Democrats President Lauren Nickoloff said some call students transient, but “we represent students who are going to be here in the future.”
