Patric Young attempts a layup during Florida’s 78-69 win against Alabama on Feb. 8 in the O’Connell Center.

When told by a reporter after his postgame interview Wednesday night that No. 1 Syracuse had fallen to Boston College in overtime 62-59 in the Carrier Dome, Patric Young had some controversial words for the 7-19 Eagles.

“To Boston College? They suck,” Young said. “They’re awful.”

But about 20 hours after the comment went viral on social media, Young apologized for his comments via his Twitter account (@BigPatYoung4) in a classy and mature manner.

“I regret the disrespectful comment I made after the interview last night. Boston College deserved only praise after that great win and I Apologize for taking away from it. I hope that comment does not alter the way people think about me and I wish I could take those words back,” Young posted in a pair of tweets.

The comment about BC came after No. 2 Florida’s 71-66 win against Auburn on Wednesday in the O’Connell Center — the Gators’ school-record 18th straight victory.

During the win, Young led UF’s charge in the second half, scoring all 17 of his points in the final 20 minutes of action.

The 6-foot-9 senior center's two most important points came on a pair of free throws with 19 seconds left to put UF ahead 68-66. He also made one of two attempts from the charity stripe with four seconds remaining to put the Gators ahead by five and seal the win.
