On Trend, On a Budget: I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past season, you’ve likely noticed an influx of overalls, tube socks, bucket hats, Keds and all things ‘90s amongst your fashion-forward friends.

(Real talk: If you haven’t, then your friends must not be very fashionable.)

You’re probably thinking, “But the title is ‘I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly,’ which is so clearly a Destiny’s Child reference from 2002.” And this would be true – I admit it.

But this post about being on trend on a budget isn’t all about the decade of teen pop, it’s actually about jelly sandals, a mere ray of style-setting shine erupting from the inferno of ‘90s fashion and culture.

So let’s get down to business. These sandals are one facet of ‘90s footwear seriously on point for summer. And the really great thing about them is their versatility – break out the sass or keep it sweet!

Opt for a sleeker all-black version if you’re more on the edge of Nirvana’s “Teen Spirit” than Aqua’s “Barbie Girl,” but I assure you the look can shimmy both ways. Just this week, I saw a girl rocking a pair of clear jelly sandals with white buckles and mismatched socks underneath, one pastel purple, one baby blue. And she was working it. Paired with a floral sundress and tousled hair, the overall look was ‘90s shabby-chic, polished in the dress, playful in the shoes and completely effortless (yet still glam) in the hair.

The sandals are a comfy way to keep your wardrobe fashion-relevant, which is always a fantastic thing to be. Couple them with your overalls for some real ‘90s style devotion, or just pair a colored jelly sandal with shorts and a tank to take the traditional summer uniform up a notch.

Find some jelly sandals all your own from BC Footwear at Urban Outfitters  for just $24, or get some glitter on there with the Cooperative Heeled Jelly Sandal, also at Urban Outfitters, for just $20!

With prices that good, you need not worry that this is a fleeting footwear trend. Just concern yourself with killing the style game.
