The second day of the Cougar Classic in Charleston, S.C., at the Yeamans Hall Course has been completed, and the Florida women’s golf team did not make up any ground on the leaderboard, as they continue to sit in 14th place. The No. 17 Gators finished the second round at 10-over-par and are 19-over-par overall for the tournament. UF is 29 shots behind leader and Southeastern Conference foe, No. 7 Arkansas, who sit at 9-under-par. Coach Emily Glaser said the team did not capitalize on opportunities.

“We had a similar day to yesterday, we just made too many mistakes on a scoreable golf course.”

Leading the way for the Gators was sophomore Karolina Vlckova who completed her round at 1-under-par and is in a tie for 19th at even par after two days. Behind her for Florida, is sophomore Kelly Grassel who shot a 2-over-par, 74 after shooting an even par round the first round.

Senior Camilla Hedberg, who won the individual portion of the event two years ago, shot 3-over-par in the second round and is 7-over-par after two days. Junior Ursa Orehek sits at 10-over-par, and freshman Taylor Tomlinson is one shot behind Orehek at 11-over-par.

The final round of play will begin this morning with a shotgun start, which means players from all schools will tee off simultaneously from different holes in the golf course. Glaser said the team needs to work on things that they can manage and target areas they can improve.

“We need to get back to the basics tomorrow and focus on things that are within our control,” Glaser said. “It’s early in the year though and this will help us to focus our practice and really understand what we need to work on to be a better team.”
