College opens the door for new opportunities like joining clubs, getting internships and, my personal favorite, studying abroad.

You get the chance to live in another country for anywhere from six weeks to a full academic year. You’re immersed into culture, eating different food, speaking a different language, meeting new people and shaping a future for yourself. It all seems so magical and awesome, that is, until you find out that your boyfriend or girlfriend is going abroad.

For most people, this causes an exorbitant amount of stress. You two will be on completely different schedules, and you’ll go without seeing each other for quite a while. This may seem like the end of the world, but no worries, there are a lot of positives that come out of this experience.

To start, this is when you to will get to learn how to really appreciate each other. As cliché as it is, distance truly makes the heart grow fonder. When you're only communication is Skype and FaceTime, the thought of being able to hug again is so much sweeter.

Aside from that, your boyfriend or girlfriend is getting to live a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it will make it that much more amazing if you're supportive. Believe me, he or she is going to miss you as much as you do, so do your part in allowing him or her to take advantage of this opportunity.

Remember, this time in your relationship is going to be exactly what you make it. If you dread it and let the other know that you dread it, it won’t be a good ride for you two. However, they’ll be excited if you're excited, and your support will only make things better!
