Sen. Michael Christ moves to unanimously approve two bills granting funding to two student organizations at Tuesday’s 13-minute long Student Senate meeting.

Michael Christ can’t stay away from UF’s Senate chambers.

Two weeks after his departure as a Murphree senator and the last Students Party minority senator, Sen. Christ saw an opening for a graduate senate seat and couldn’t resist.

“The biggest thing for grad students is they feel they don’t have a voice in Student Government,” he said. “They feel it’s a very undergraduate focus.”

The 21-year-old UF senior will graduate with a combined bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science next May, therefore qualifying for the graduate senate seat. UF Student Senate President Joseph Michaels voted to approve Christ for the graduate seat during an Oct. 28 meeting.

Christ said he plans to slate as an independent.

“The reason I did that as Senate President is I always appreciate a strong voice regardless of party affiliation,” Michaels said. “He brings a different perspective to Senate, and representing grad students you have to have a different perspective.”

Christ said he will also continue his crusade for reduced spending in SG.

“It’s good to be back and good to be fighting for the issues I care about,” he said.
