The Harn Museum of Art will feature the Society, Studio and Street exhibition from a British photography studio, Hoppé Portraits, at tonight’s Museum Nights from 6 to 9 p.m.

Museum Nights are held on the second Thursday of each month to encourage visitors to connect with art while having fun. The museum, located at 3259 Hull Road, offers free admission, food and drinks to all visitors.

The museum’s director of marketing and public relations, Tami Wroath, said the exhibit includes 142 portraits of celebrities and street art in London. The photographs were taken by British-German photographer Emil Otto Hoppé and are dated between 1909 and 1945, she said.

Wroath said in order to portray the London spirit, activities at the event will include a British-themed jeopardy game, an opportunity for visitors to decorate their own royal crown, a Beatles-themed photo booth where visitors can share photos to social media, and a London-inspired phone booth where they can leave messages to the museum about their thoughts on the exhibition.

“Incorporating fun activities with the art is going to get people more involved and make it easier for them to learn about the photos while having fun,” said Stephani Navega, a UF linguistics junior.

“I also think the photo booth is a cool idea since it’ll help spread the word about the event with the social media uploads,” she said.

The event will also include the performance “London Calling: Poetry and Popular Music in the Modernist City,” which features singers Tony Canty and Caitlin Pearse and musicians Nick Pierce and Thomas Royal.

“The performers will recreate jazz songs and music hall numbers from the time of photographer Emil Otto Hoppé’s London,” Wroath said.

Next month’s Museum Nights, which will be held on August 13, will be inspired by NEXUS: Experimental Photography in Florida. It will feature art, tours and activities with a focus on Florida, according to the museum’s website.

The photographs exhibited will be those taken by former UF photography professors, Wroath said.
