Taylor Tomlinson putts during the 2015 SunTrust Gator Invitational at UF's Mark Bostick Golf Course.

After posting the best three-round score of her college career, sophomore Taylor Tomlinson tied for first place to take home her first collegiate individual title at the Cougar Classic in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday.

Tomlinson’s 6-under 210 was matched only by Clemson’s Alice Hewson.

Arkansas’s Regina Plasencia and Georgia’s Jillian Hollis finished in a tie for third place, each with a 4-under 212.

"It’s really exciting," Tomlinson said in a release.

"I know a lot of really good players — some don’t even get a college win under their belt, so to get it, especially the first tournament of the year, is really nice."

Despite shooting a 2-over 74 in her final round, the Gainesville native held on for the win with some help from her back-to-back 4-under 68’s she shot in the first two rounds on Sunday and Monday.

Tomlinson totalled 14 birdies throughout the tournament, and she credits her success to her short game.

"I played really well, just steady and solid all week," Tomlinson said.

"My putting really helped me the first two days, I made a lot of birdie putts which was nice. They didn’t fall as much today but I was still able to get it done."

Tomlinson wasn’t the only one setting personal bests, as senior Ursa Orehek logged the lowest three-round score of her college career with a 4-over 220 and had her best finish, tied for 17th.

Junior Maria Torres tied for 15th individually at 3-over par, thanks to a clutch birdie on the final hole of the tournament.

Karolina Vlckova (T29) and Samantha Wagner (T35) also birdied the 18th hole and finished the competition at 6-over and 8-over, respectively.

No. 8 Arkansas ran away with the tournament and were the only team to finish under-par at 7-under.

Georgia would finish in second place with an even-par finish, led by the strong play of Hollis.

No. 16 Virginia finished third at 1-over, while Florida, finished its opening tournament of the Fall season in fourth place at 5-over.

"I’m happy with the effort of our team this week," Glaser commented.

"We played solid overall, and I saw a lot of improvements from the returnees. Today was a tougher scoring day. We gave away too many shots on the scorable holes and par-fives, which prevented us from making more of a run.

"But, I feel like we left with a good sense of where we can improve, and I know this team is committed to working hard and improving."

Known for being one of the most challenging women’s tournaments in college golf due to the level of competition, the Cougar Classic showcased Tomlinson’s ability to perform under pressure.

"I really couldn’t be happier for Taylor." Glaser said.

"It’s a huge step in her progression, to make all of the birdies she did this week, to get in contention and then finish it off. She really committed to improving her putting over the summer and it paid off for her this week."

The Gators have less than a week off before the team will be back in action on Monday at the Cherokee Country Club for the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate in Knoxville, Tennessee.
