Gainesville Police arrested two Georgia men early Thursday morning after police said they tried to escape with about 6 ounces of marijuana and a loaded revolver. About 12:45 a.m. Thursday, Rasheed Napier, 21, and Taqwan McCrary, 21, traveled west on Southwest 20th Avenue with a broken license-plate light, according to a police report.

As the officer started to follow the men, they used a turn signal and pulled into a bus stop, where the officer then stepped out of his car, according to a police report. The men sped off and eventually turned into University Terrace West Condominiums while the officer followed with lights and siren on. A dead end stopped the men, who parked in a ditch and ran.

The officer reportedly chased the men and saw Napier throw a duffle bag over a fence before arresting him. Another officer arrested McCrary shortly after, and police later found the marijuana and a loaded .38-caliber revolver in the duffle bag.

Police arrested Napier and McCrary on charges of possessing drug paraphernalia and marijuana for sale. Napier was charged for the concealed firearm.

Authorities took both men to the Alachua County Jail where, as of press time, Napier remains in lieu of a $160,000 bond. McCrary was released at 5:25 p.m. Thursday on a bond of $32,000.
