Santa Fe College Student Senate elected a new parliamentarian and elections committee Wednesday evening.

The chamber voted 19-10 to elect Sen. Manu Osorio, who beat Sen. Benjamin Myers and a handful of other candidates.

While she said she isn’t knowledgeable on all rules and procedures, Osorio said she is confident she’ll learn quickly because of her time in Santa Fe’s Model United Nations club, which uses similar procedures and rules.

"So hopefully I know some of my procedure, (but) there is still definitely a lot I need to learn… I’ll admit that, but I’ll try my best to keep this chamber in order," she said.

Osorio will now be responsible for ensuring the chamber follows procedures and rules.

Andres Chinchilla, the former parliamentarian, resigned earlier this semester because he was too busy with classes, two leadership team members said.

"He felt obligated to fulfill his job and he missed some classes because of it," said Senate President Carol Daugherty.

The chamber also elected three senators for its elections committee — Skyla Eastman for the academic senator seat, Kane Ahern for the club senator seat and Bianca Barrera for the at-large senator seat.
