C-SPAN, a channel that broadcasts politics live, will appear at UF today as part of its first tour of Florida universities.
Its commentators will interview UF cybersecurity professor Mark Tehranipoor for the "Washington Journal" morning show before opening its bus to students from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the Reitz Union North Lawn.
C-SPAN will interview one professor on a specific topic at each school, said Sara Zou, a marketing representative for C-SPAN. Tehranipoor will discuss cybersecurity.
Cybersecurity is the measures taken to protect a computer or Internet-connected device against unauthorized access or attack, according to the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Careers and Studies.
UF is the second stop on the tour, Zou said. The bus visited Florida State University on Monday.
"This time of year, we’re always heading toward Florida," she said.
Alex Bernier, a UF law sophomore, said he’ll be tuning in to watch Tehranipoor’s interview. He said more people should care about Internet safety because it affects everyone.
"I think right now there are about three times as many Internet-connected devices as there are (people) on the planet," the 22-year-old said.
