I love letting people borrow my books, but I’ve also been told that I’m quite OCD with my books.

I can’t entirely say that’s a lie.

Everyone who reads my book must pass a test, or at least that’s what I call it.

I’m a firm believer in the preservation of all books. And for a long time, I couldn’t exactly explain what that means, but I do now.

The first and only part of my book test involves seeing how the reader plans on reading a book. I know that sounds quite unusual. By that, I mean I like to see how the individual plans on holding the book while he or she is reading.

I don’t like the spine of the book to be cracked open. The spine of the book should not be bent while reading, in my opinion.

Yes, everyone is allowed to make the OCD remarks now, I get it.

But truthfully, I believe all people must care for the books they read. I want future generations to be able to read these books because of how well I take care of my books.

It’s selfish to think I will be the only person to read these books. It’s also almost a waste of money just to buy a book thinking that I will be the only person to ever read them.

I’m so uptight about my books because I hope one day all my friends will be able to read the book without it falling apart. I hope my kids and grandkids will be able to read that exact same book and almost believe the book is brand new.

Most of the books I own are used books. Because other people took such great care of them, I am now able to read their books.

I think it’s really important to pay it forward and do the same for others.
