A lot of avid book readers are compiling a list of the books they are most thankful for in honor of Thanksgiving, and I decided to join the trend.
This list is really only of books that come to mind in the past few years of reading. But these books really impacted me in some way.
3. “Lucas” by Kevin Brooks
I’m sure no one has heard of this book. This book made my top five for an interesting reason.
I read this book randomly during a time where reading wasn’t a top priority anymore because personally I was going through a lot. During the few times that I would pick up a book, this book hit me and struck me in a way that I could not ever have imagined.
The book contains a quote that really helped me get through a lot of times. I typed out the quote and printed it out when I first read it so that I would always remember it.
This book taught me how to love those close to me.
2. “Change of Heart” by Jodi Picoult
This book made me physically sick while reading it. I really can’t elaborate on that much without ruining the book unfortunately.
I will say that the book title is literally what the book is about. It involves a very unique heart transplant.
I remember finishing this book, and I just stared at the walls trying to take everything in. I had to wait a week or so before I could even handle picking up another book.
This book taught me how to look at life in a whole new way.
1. “Until I Say Good-Bye” by Susan Spencer-Wendel
Now this book was written by a University of Florida graduate, so I might have a little bias in that sense.
The author wrote this entire 384-page book with her right thumb. If that’s not impressive, I don’t know what is.
This book is a little sad, but it’s also a joyful book. This book is about a woman, Susan Spencer-Wendel who is dying from ALS. During this book, Susan goes on a trip with every important person in her life.
I really don’t cry during books because I’m not much of crier. I just never have been. Even today, picking up this book and reading the first page can have me sobbing.
This book taught me how precious life really is.
