A UF graduate assistant’s art is on display in Chicago.

The National Wet Paint Masters of Fine Arts Biennial Exhibition chose Elias Lytton, a UF painting and drawing graduate student, to display his art as part of an exhibition at the Zhou B Art Center in Chicago. His work is on display until Feb. 13.

The exhibit’s curators pick from a pool of master’s students across the country every other year. The name “Wet Paint” refers to the idea of a fresh group of artists who are developing their careers.

Lytton’s piece, “No Title (penance),” shows an abstract picture of a landscape, the 28-year-old said. He said he submitted his three strongest pieces, and one was chosen.

The piece is oil paint on canvas and needed to be shipped carefully to its temporary home in Chicago, he said.

“The stuff I’ve been working on right now, that painting especially, is really dense with the paint on it,” Lytton said. “So, I had to invent this whole foam casket thing for it to make sure nothing would get damaged or pushed on.”

Maria Rogal, the interim director for the School of Art and Art History at UF, said Lytton’s work was exceptional.

“It shows a lot of Elias’ own motivation but also probably the support that I would say he has from his peers and his teachers in order to get there,” Rogal said.
