The University of Florida men’s and women’s track and field teams started off their 2016 season with mixed results on Friday at the two-day Rod McCravy Memorial, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky.

For the No. 1-ranked men’s team, sophomore KeAndre Bates finished Friday’s competition in second place in the men’s long jump with a distance of 7.73 meters.

The men also shined in the 600-yard run, with the Gators nabbing three of the top six spots. Redshirt junior Eric Futch ran his way to second place with a time of 1:11.10, with junior Nick Uruburu and redshirt sophomore TJ Holmes finishing close behind in fourth and sixth place, respectively.

For the No. 6 ranked women, sophomore Darrielle McQueen took third in the long jump, before passing on her last three attempts. In the weight throw event, sophomore Lloydricia Cameron and redshirt freshman Jontavia Dykes finished in the 8th and 9th place spots.

The Invitational, which started off NCAA Indoor Competition for the Gators, will continue into Saturday, starting with the Triple Jump and Shot Put competitions, with Ebony Luster and Cameron representing the women’s team.
