UF running back Jordan Scarlett (25) runs out of bounds after a 60-yard gain in the fourth quarter of Florida's 27-3 win against Georgia on Oct. 31, 2015, at EverBank Field in Jacksonville.

After an arrest and a suspension, UF running back Jordan Scarlett could see his drug charges dropped.

On Tuesday, Scarlett, 19, signed a deferred prosecution agreement, which states his misdemeanor marijuana charges may be dismissed if Scarlett avoids committing another crime in the next six months.

Scarlett is also required to pay $50 to the Office of the State Attorney and $150 to Project Payback.

On Dec. 19, 2015, police arrested Scarlett at the Keys Residential Complex after the residential hall director smelled weed outside Scarlett’s room and called authorities, according to a police report.

When officers arrived, Scarlett led them to his top desk drawer and pulled out a wooden pipe and a half-smoked joint, according to the report.

Police arrested Scarlett on charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of less than 20 grams of weed, according to the report.

Scarlett was suspended for the Jan. 1 Citrus Bowl against Michigan, a 41-7 loss to the Wolverines. In his first season at Florida, Scarlett recorded 34 carries for 181 yards and one touchdown.

UF head coach Jim McElwain said he was proud of how Scarlett accepted the consequences of his actions. McElwain said Scarlett will return to the team next season.

“I tell you,” McElwain said, “he’s a great kid and handled it the way you should handle it. Stood up, honest, and I’m proud of him for that.”
