After a UF Alert on Sunday, Gainesville Police are still looking for the suspect of an afternoon robbery.

At about 2 p.m. Sunday, an unknown man snatched a backpack from a 43-year-old man near Archer Woods apartments, located in the 3000 block of SW Archer Road, Gainesville Police spokesman Officer Ben Tobias wrote in an email.

The backpack held 83 Oxycodone pills and other prescriptions, Tobias said.

While police are not necessarily suspicious of the bag’s contents, Tobias said people don’t usually carry around a large quantity of painkillers.

“We’re wondering if the suspect knew what was in that backpack,” he said.

Police described the suspect as a man between the ages of 20 and 30 years old. He wore a blue track suit, Tobias said.

Authorities are hopeful they will catch the man, especially since seven of eight UF Alerts involving robberies resulted in arrests in the Fall, he said.

“We’ve been on a good streak with robbery arrests so far this year, and we want to keep that up,” Tobias said.

For now, Tobias said officers are canvassing the area around the apartment complex, interviewing residents and knocking on doors.

It is unknown if surveillance footage was taken, but they are searching for it, Tobias said.
