UF’s Career Resource Center will begin its expansion this year.
The CRC will expand at least 7,000 square feet, said Heather White, the CRC’s director. New conference rooms, interviewing space and staff offices will be added, she said. Construction should begin within the next year and be completed between nine months and a year, she said.
White said the CRC began raising the $7 million to $7.5 million needed for construction about four years ago. The cost of building the expansion has increased $2.5 million since then. She said UF’s Board of Trustees will vote in March on whether to give the CRC the additional money.
White said Florida’s Capital Improvement Trust Fund provided $5.2 million in 2014. The Fund uses tuition fees to pay for non-academic buildings.
She said the CRC is expanding due to a high demand for services.
“We are at capacity right now,” White said. “We’re trying to forecast and project into the future, making sure we have enough space.”
Jamielee Huther, a UF economics and information systems junior, said the CRC should expand so more students can get help with resumes and interviews.
Huther, who has seen peer mentors for help with resumes at the Heavener School of Business, said students in other colleges should have more options, like the CRC.
“If you can have more than one place to go with different perspectives you’re just going to grow more,” the 20-year-old said.
