Megan Reed highlights UF track and field on Day 1 at UCF

Megan Reed led Florida on Friday.

The sophomore finished first place in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 42.30 meters in the finals, edging out Florida A&M’s Andrea Aaron by 2.46 meters.

Overall, Gators had a successful outdoor-season debut on the first day of the Black & Gold Challenge hosted by the UCF on Friday.

In the women’s hammer throw, Jontavia Dykes earned fourth place with a distance of 53.71 meters.

Florida was also able to earn three spots in the top-6 in the men’s hammer throw, with Andres Eriksson (69.83 meters), AJ McFarland (60.66 meters) and Angel Parra (50.63 meters) coming in first, third, and sixth, respectively.

The Gators begin Day 2 competition Saturday at 10 a.m. with Lloydricia Cameron and Dykes in the women’s discus.
